New Poll Shows 68% Of NY-17 Constituents Disapprove Of Rep. Mike Lawler’s Threats To Cut Veterans Benefits, Fire Teachers, And Slash Public Safety Spending
Washington, D.C. – House Majority Forward released the results of its survey of NY-17 constituents, which looked at Rep. Mike Lawler’s economic approval rating and his vote to cut veterans benefits, fire teachers, and slash public safety spending.
The results come after House Majority Forward’s launch of a six-figure direct-mail and cable TV ad campaign with League of Conservation Voters in NY-17, holding Rep. Mike Lawler and House Republicans accountable for threatening to hold the country hostage with a government shutdown.
In September, the League of Conservation Voters (LCV), Climate Power and House Majority Forward (HMF) also launched a television and digital ad campaign holding House Republicans accountable for supporting efforts to shut down the government and force draconian cuts to popular programs that people depend on.
House Majority Forward’s survey found Rep. Mike Lawler’s economic approval rating underwater after a six-figure direct-mail campaign in NY-17:
- Rep. Mike Lawler’s economic approval rating is underwater, sitting at an abysmal 32%.
- 68% of NY-17 constituents disapproved of Rep. Mike Lawler’s threats to shut down the government in order to cut veterans benefits, fire public school teachers, and slash public safety spending.
“The current majority in Congress has no plan to govern for the American people apart from holding the nation hostage in an attempt to force unprecedented cuts to crucial programs for veterans, public safety, and working families in New York’s 17th congressional district,” said House Majority Forward Executive Director Abby Curran Horrell. “New Yorkers must tell Rep. Mike Lawler his allegiance to extremist cuts for working families are unacceptable for NY-17.”
